DIY: Coffee/Tea Cozy

Difficulty Level: Easy

YAY! Okay, this is a rough patch for me and my first tutorial. I decided to do a super simple tutorial seeing as I don’t want to jump right in to anything too complicated. For supplies you’ll need scissors, felt, access to a printer, coffee cozy template (download), felt or any thick type of fabric, hot glue gun, and for an optional last step a basic sewing kit.

This is literally as easy as 1, 2, 3! It takes 3 steps to do it!

Got everything you need?

LETS GET STARTED!

Pre-Steps: This step is fairly obvious but you’ll first cut out the template you printed onto printer paper, cut that out, and lay it on the felt. You’ll then cut around the paper but allow a small border to later go back in and cut around more precisely.

Before you get started plug in your glue gun to give it time to heat up!

Step 1. Okay, here’s where things get tricky.. (kidding!) I used pins from my sewing kit to hold down the paper exactly where i wanted it so when I cut it to shape, it’s doesn’t move around and make your cozy deformed. Following so far? I know, I know Obvious explanations but it’s for those who like a detailed description!

Step 2. CUT, CUT, CUT! after setting it up for cutting, now’s the time to go wild with those scissors (not really) just follow the shape of the template and cut out the cozy!

Step 3. This is the final step for you plain janes out there. Simply place your cozy face up (so the print is the side you see) and at the end of the angled side use your glue gun to make a thin line of glue.

And thats it! You can make so many because usually craft stores sell regular felt fabric for 29 cents! They’re great for christmas/birthday/surprise gifts! At 70 cents more you can buy the printed felt like I did and it makes them even cuter!

OPTIONAL:

This is totally optional but I think that it makes it super cute.

Using the left over scrap from the template you printed out cut out a small heart and using a sewing pin pin it wherever you want on the cozy. Some people like to place it in the middle but I like to place it off to the left side.

Use a back-stitch method and follow the outline of the heart to give it a finishing touch.

First Post, yaaay.

I’m so excited to start this craft journey with you all. With online classes and barely any hours at work I find myself with so much more time than I know what to do with. I love DIY projects because it allows you to put personal touches on each project! I have so many idea’s and so many projects I’m excitedly preparing to share. I hope you’ll all have as much fun making them as I do!

My name is Stephanie, by the way.
